# Creating Combinations

### What this allows you to do

Group pre-purchased or pre-assembled components into a single install step - reducing instruction granularity while keeping your underlying CAD structure intact.

### When to Use Combinations

Use combinations when:

* A group of parts arrives pre-assembled
* Components are installed together in one action
* The internal structure is irrelevant to the operator
* You want to simplify instructions without losing part traceability

Combinations are typically defined in Model View early in the workflow to establish correct hierarchy before sequencing.

### What Combinations Do

Combinations allow you to:

* Treat multiple internal CAD components as one logical unit
* Install that unit in a single step
* Reduce the number of instruction steps
* Preserve full design detail behind the scenes

This keeps your instructions focused on what operators actually need to do.

### Creating Combinations

#### Create a Combination from Model View

* Multi-select the components you want to group
* Right-click and choose **Create Combination**

#### Converting Existing Phantoms

* BuildOS automatically pulls in design phantoms from your CAD file
* Any of these can be **converted to combinations** with a right-click
* Useful when design structure doesn’t match manufacturing reality

### Key Tips

* Use combinations for “install as one unit” scenarios
* Internal CAD detail is preserved for traceability
* Combining before sequencing keeps instruction authoring clean
