# Measurements

This will cover how to create and manage measurements on your 3D models.

You can create distance and angle measurements directly on your 3D CAD models. Measurements are saved with your project and displayed in the 3D viewer.

## Accessing the measurements toolbar

The measurements toolbar is located in the top toolbar above the 3D viewer. It is available when editing instructions in Instruction view.

1. Select a component or node in the model tree or 3D viewer.
2. Click the **ruler icon** in the top toolbar to expand the measurements toolbar.

The toolbar displays three buttons:

* **Show/Hide All Measurements (eye icon)** — Toggle visibility of all measurements on the selected node
* **Distance Measurement** — Enter distance measurement mode
* **Angle Measurement** — Enter angle measurement mode

## Creating a distance measurement

1. Select the node you want to measure on.
2. Open the measurements toolbar by clicking the **ruler icon**.
3. Click the **Distance Measurement** button. The button highlights to indicate you are in measurement mode.
4. In the 3D viewer, click your first point (a vertex, edge, or face).
5. Click your second point.
6. The measurement appears on screen with a label showing the distance and unit.

## Creating an angle measurement

1. Select the node you want to measure on.
2. Open the measurements toolbar by clicking the **ruler icon**.
3. Click the **Angle Measurement** button. The button highlights to indicate you are in measurement mode.
4. In the 3D viewer, click the angle vertex.
5. Click the first leg endpoint.
6. Click the second leg endpoint.
7. The measurement appears on screen with a label showing the angle.

Entering measurement mode will pause any active animations. Measurement mode automatically exits when you select a different node or close the toolbar.
{% endhint %}

## Editing a measurement

You can customize how a measurement is displayed after creating it.

1. Right-click on a measurement in the 3D viewer.
2. Select **Edit measurement** from the context menu.
3. In the Edit Measurement dialog, you can adjust:
   * **Decimal Places** — Set precision from 0 to 5 decimal places
   * **Unit** — Choose from metric (micrometers, millimeters, centimeters, decimeters, meters, kilometers) or imperial (mils, inches, feet, yards, miles). For angle measurements, choose degrees or radians.
   * **Font Size** — Adjust the label size in the 3D viewer
   * **Lower Tolerance (-)** — Set a lower tolerance bound
   * **Upper Tolerance (+)** — Set an upper tolerance bound
4. Click **Update** to save your changes.

The measured value updates in real time when you change units.

## Showing and hiding measurements

You can control the visibility of measurements in two ways:

* **Toolbar** — Click the **eye icon** in the measurements toolbar to show or hide all measurements on the selected node.
* **Right-click menu** — Right-click in the 3D viewer and select **Show all** or **Hide all**.

## Deleting a measurement

1. Right-click on the measurement in the 3D viewer.
2. Select **Delete measurement** from the context menu.

This permanently removes the measurement from your project.

## Team preferences

Default measurement settings can be configured by an administrator in **Settings** → **Team** → **Measurements**:

* Default distance unit (metric or imperial)
* Default angle unit (radians or degrees)
* Default font size

These preferences apply to all new measurements created by team members.
