# Assemblability Checker

This will cover the concepts to understand and leverage Assemblability Checks

## What is the Assemblability Checker?

The Assemblability Checker flags impossible or risky assembly steps directly in the node tree. Steps in the node tree with assemblability issues will display a warning icon, with the icon reflecting the severity of the issue. By surfacing path and model level collisions, it prevents surprises later in the production process and ensures that a sequence is physically feasible.

## Types of Assemblability Issues

There are two types of assemblability issues defined within BuildOS:

* **Model Overlap:** Model overlap issues occur when two or more parts are geometrically in collision in an uploaded file, signaling potential issues in the design of the model
* **Path Obstruction:** Path overlap issues occur when a part's generated path collides geometrically with other parts, signaling potential issues in the physical assembly of the step.

## Issue Severity

Both model overlap and path obstruction issues are assigned a severity of either major or minor. For each issue type, below is how major and minor are defined:

* **Model Overlap:**
  * **Major:** There is greater than 10% static overlap between geometries
  * **Minor:** There is less than 10% static overlap between geometries
  * **None:**
    * There is no static overlap between geometries
    * The overlap occurs within a combination
* **Path Obstruction:**
  * **Major:** In the generated path, over 30% of the path collides with the model
  * **Minor:** In the generated path, between 10% and 30% of the path collides with the model
  * **None:**
    * In the generated path, less than 10% of the path collides with the model
    * The overlap occurs within a combination
    * The path is user-defined ([custom animations](/user-guide/project-open/edit-canvas-visuals/edit-animations.md#creating-custom-animations))
    * There is no animation (animation = None)

## Troubleshooting Assemblability Issues

To determine if assemblability issues warrant further investigation, you can click on the warning icon, which will reveal the type and severity of the issue. Furthermore, clicking on the issue itself will prompt one of two actions:

* **Model Overlap:** The overlapping geometries are highlighted within the model view
* **Path Obstruction:** The step is selected and instructions view is opened

To view all assemblability issues at once, click the warning icon at the top of the node tree. This will reveal a dropdown of all of the assemblability issues in the project.

Within the dropdown, you may decide to deselect "Show DFM Issues", which would prevent BuildOS from showing assemblability issues for the project.
