# Annotations

This will cover how to use annotations effectively in BuildOS

## What are annotations?

Annotations are visuals applied to an instruction step which communicate information to the operator using the instructions.

## Types of annotations

In BuildOS, you can add the following types of annotations:

* Text
* Rectangles
* Circles
* Arrows
* Lines
* Free draw

By combining these annotation types, you can capture any additional information you need in the 3D viewer.
